1) CANCELLED EVENT
Reflections on Life in Gaza Wednesday, Sept. 7th, 2005 @ 7:30 PM. Event was cancelled because its presenter, Palestinian activist Majeda Al-Saqqa is unable to travel from Palestine. The event was a presentation of organizing efforts with women and youth, in addition to a discussion of the repercussion of the Gaza disengagement plan.

THE CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLY ON TUESDAY VOTED 38:32 IN FAVOR OF SJR 10- CA's CIVIL RIGHTS RESOLUTION...UNFORUNATELY IT NEEDS 41 VOTES TO PASS. (Background- Recently passed in State Senate and Assembly Judiciary)

Background:

*

SJR 10 reaffirms California’s dedication to protect civil liberties by:
o Urging congressional candidates to repeal the unconstitutional portions of the U.S.A PATRIOT Act, such as “sneak and peak”, the search of financial and medical records, the wire tapping of home phones, and other subsequent legislation.
o Preventing state resources from being spent to enforce any unconstitutional legislation.

* Seven states and 400 communities across the country have already passed similar resolutions, including 63 by California cities and counties. According to the Bill of Rights Defense Committee, (http://www.bordc.org) Representatives in areas that passed such measures were less likely to support provisions in the PATRIOT Act considered unconstitutional (such as the sneak and peak- which allows federal agents to search property without informing resident, etc.)California must add its voice!
