I attended tonight's event to, among other things ''welcome Cindy home with love'' . Sheehan's presentation was fine ,especially her account of how she handled condesending questions from Corporate media reporters .But there were some problems with at least three of the speakers preceding her . First (and least significant ) Medea Benjamin , noting Sheehan's move from Vacaville to Berkeley , exclaimed ''Welcome to the Bay Area Cindy ! ''. Great except Vacaville is located in one of the Bay Area counties . A far more important error was when Lincoln Malik praised the ''courage of Barbara Boxer, and Senator Feingold in their opposition to this war ''. Well, the problem is that their ''anrtiwar courage '' doesn't exist . They have made it clear time and time again that while they oppose the reasons the Bush regime gave for the war they both say ''we'' can't ''cut and run '' and withdrawl can only BEGIN after the ''security situation has been stablized '' They currently SUPPORT THE WAR . It's to Malik's discredit that he would state such a easily disproved assertion that they are some sort of ''peaceniks ''. Lastly in a skit about The Crawford '' Camp Casey '' one of the characters portraying a elderly , life long antiwar activist, states that in all her ''65 years'' of activism , there has never been antiwar military families . The script writer got it wrong . Of the tens of thousands of Vietnam Vets in such groups like Vietnam Vets against the war , American Servicemen's Union. Movement for a Democractic Miltary etc,. many of their families supported their actions and views , many of them openly . Anyway All in all a good event but i think those errors , especially the grossly inaccurate statement by Malik , slightly hurt it's effectiveness .
