Twentieth Annual Western Workers Labor Heritage Festival, Jan. 13-15, 2006
The Twentieth Annual Western Workers Labor Heritage Festival, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s contribution to the civil rights and labor movements, will be held January 13-15, 2006.
The weekend of solidarity in an era of war, racism, and hard times features music, drama, visual arts, spoken word, poetry, photography and more.

Twentieth Annual Western Workers Labor Heritage Festival, Jan. 13-15, 2006
The Twentieth Annual Western Workers Labor Heritage Festival, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s contribution to the civil rights and labor movements, will be held January 13-15, 2006 at the Union Halls of the Machinists Local 1781, Plumbers Local 467, and Transport Workers Local 505, 1511 Rollins Road, Burlingame.
The weekend of solidarity in an era of war, racism, and hard times features music, drama, visual arts, spoken word, poetry, photography and more. The event kicks off with a Friday evening Song, Story, and Poetry Circle and features Workshops and Presentations, a Sunday Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and a Benefit Concert Sunday evening at 7 p.m. Festival registration for the whole weekend is $50 and includes admission to the Sunday benefit Concert. Saturday only registration is $30 and admission to the Sunday concert is on a sliding scale, $10 - $20 per person. However, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
The Western Workers Labor Heritage Festival has become a vibrant Northern California tradition. Union artists, activists and supporters celebrate the diverse culture of the labor movement. The festival provides an entertaining and exciting environment in which participants explore the heritage of working people and discuss the vital issues facing today’s workers.
Activities for the festival include performances by the Bay Area Rockin’ Solidarity Labor Heritage Chorus, La Paz, Zambian Hip Hop artist CRISIS, the Vukani Muwethu Chorus, Dialeclectics, Zeek Green, and the Dinosoars of Improv participatory theater group. Workshops on graphic arts, creating bumperstickers, anti-war activism, and using humor in songs and organizing will be presented, along with a discussion of New Directions for Labor, spoken word performances, and films. The Sunday benefit concert will raise funds for needy workers.
