On November 2nd 2005, the California Highway Patrol attacked 40 bicycle riders on highway 101 as they rode from Arcata to Eureka where a demonstration was taking place.
One bicycle rider, Kat Zimmerman, was knocked off of her bicycle, landing on her head. The perpetraitor of the attack was CHP officer Randy Price. The CHP has alleged that Kat somehow attacked officer Price, and charged her with a felony assault on an officer. After it was determined that officer Price was not as injured as he claimed, the felony was reduced to a misdemeanor.
Meanwhile, DA Paul Gallegos has not investigated the misconduct of officer Price, and is going ahead with the prosecution of Kat Zimmerman. Kat's next court date is Wednesday, Jan 18 2006 (a couple of days from now).
Other bicycle riders were assaulted and charged with lesser crimes. The DA has tried to cover up the whole event - overreaction and misconduct of the CHP and Eureka Police department - by trying to get the defendants to enter into a plea bargain. They have all maintained their innocence, and we are all waiting for the investigation into police misconduct.

Thanks for posting this article. Kat and the other bikers from that day deserve lots of support. They are the latest vicitms of Humboldt County's out-of-control cops.
Officer Randy Price, who knocked Kat off her bike on Highway 101 appears to have lied about an injury to his rotator cuff. This was a lie to support his other lie, that Kat tried to ram him with her bike. The purpose of that lie was to cover up the fact that he feloniously knocked her off her bike, causing injury.
