Urgent Alert: Save The Delta by Showing At SDIP Hearing!

by Dan Bacher
If we want to save the Dying California Delta, anglers, environmentalists, Indian tribe members and everybody concerned about the future of the Delta, the most important estuary on the Pacific coast, need  to show at this SDIP (South Delta Improvement Act) hearing on Thursday evening at the Department of General Services Auditorium in Stockton. Here are the details from Mark Rockwell and Doug Lovell.

Everyone:  This is our one big chance to make a statement to the State on what we think about the Delta.  It is vital for all our clubs, especially those close by, to participate!  This is our time to stand up and be heard.  If we don't rally on this, we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

Bring as many people as you can muster!

Meeting location:
STOCKTON: Thursday, January 26, 2006, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Department of General Services Auditorium, 31 East Channel Street, Stockton CA.

From Doug Lovell:

We have about 4 thousand postcards, letters, and petition signatures to
present during the hearing.  The presentation of the postcards is intended
to be our "media" event, although many folks will also speak at the hearing
and make themselves available for interviews with any media that are
present.

Here is the plan.

We will meet outside the auditorium at 6:30 to go over the presentation of
the postcards and dole out stacks of signed cards to folks.

Folks should sign in for the hearing as Anglers Against SDIP-yourname

We will request to speak as a block but if that is denied, the first person
called from the group should defer to Doug Lovell.

Doug Lovell and a few others (Bob Strickland, Gary Adams, Mike McKenzie,
etc.) will go to the podium and introduce the campaign to provide voice to
anglers and oppose SDIP.  As we read the content of the postcard into the
record, folks will parade to the podium and deposit the signed cards in
basket.  As folks drop off the cards it would be appropriate for them to
stop by the microphone and give a few symbolic works like "that's for my
children and grandchildren".  The presentation of the postcards should take
several minutes.

After the postcards, we will proceed with providing public comments which I
suspect will be limited to about 3 minutes per person.

YOUR CHARGE (1) attend and contact your friends and encourage them to
attend.  (2) contact folks at the newspapers and tv and let them know there
will be a large, unified, passionate outpouring from the anglers and
commercial fishermen at the SDIP hearing and we will appreciate their
coverage.
