Kansas City: Contemporary American Radical Political Poster Art

by Chuck Munson (chuck [at] mutualaid.org)
Radical political posters have long been a feature of American
culture and politics. From handbills posted during the Revolutionary War
to wheatpasted posters put up by anti-capitalists activists, radical

Contemporary American Radical Political Poster Art

Call for Entries

Showing during May 2006 at the MoMo Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri
Opening night: First Friday, May 5, 2006

Radical political posters have long been a feature of American culture and politics. From handbills posted during the Revolutionary War to wheatpasted posters put up by anti-capitalists activists, radical street art has been vital to political discourse in this country. Radical art in public spaces has made a comeback in the past 15 years. Stencil art, graffiti, guerrilla art, billboard alteration, posters and other format have exploded into the public sphere. Much of the content of this art reflects opinions and ideas that most Americans never see or hear in the mainstream corporate media.

We are excited about this renaissance in radical political art, so we’ve decided to organize a show featuring contemporary radical poster art to share with Kansas City. We are calling on radical political artists to share with Kansas City what you’ve been doing as an artist.

This show is being organized by Chuck Munson and Mott-ly. Chuck is an activist, librarian and artist who runs the popular Infoshop.org website. Mott-ly is a collage artist and sculptor who runs the MoMo Gallery in the Crossroads District of KCMO.

Please send one or two items. We have limited space and want to feature as many artists as possible. Send a legible address so we can return art after the exhibition.
Please send a brief bio, artist statement, and information about your pieces.

Deadline for entries: April 5, 2006

Please send material to: MoMo Gallery, 1830 Locust Street, Kansas City, MO 64108
Questions can be directed to Chuck at chuck@mutualaid.org
