Historic Leidesdorff Plaza ~ Junteenth Folsom 2006
Historic Leidesdorff Plaza will come alive with the sights, sounds and history of "Our Journey Towards Freedom."
In 1844, William Alexander Leidesdorff obtained 35,000 acres of land from the Mexican Governor of California to develop the region under specific legal guidelines under Mexican law.
In 1848, the Peace Treaty of Guadulupe Hildalgo ended the Mexican/US War, yet term of the treaty were not followed in the Gold Rush of California Statehood.
Today, Mexican President Fox, represents aspects of the 300 year European conquistador mentality that enslaved millions of Africans in the western hemisphere best viewed in context of the new Mexican stamps that depict Blacks in a historic racist way.
African Founding Father of Mexico, 2nd President of Mexico Vicente Guerrero ended slavery in Mexico and that decision facilitated the US/Mexican War.
The US Civil war followed with a "universal Catholic notion" of 1000 years of enslavement for people of African ancestry in the Americas.
Today, our Juneteenth Folsom 2006, "Our Journey Towards Freedom" begins the 150 year celebrations in the Sacramento Valley River Basin.
