Update on the Santa Cruz City Council Race

VAN ALLEN CAMPAIGN REPORT. Bruce Van Allen had his kickoff party in his run for the Santa Cruz City Council. He's been endorsed by the Monterey Bay Central Labor Council (he was the only SC City Council candidate endorsed). SEIU Local 415 and People Power as well, so he's doing great so far.

CHRISTOPHER COBB CAMPAIGN REPORT. I helped gather about 18 political veterans last week to meet Christopher Cobb. They questioned and discussed politics with him for over an hour, and then most stayed another hour afterwards just to give him ideas and updatings on our civic political scene. Most agreed that just the experience of being on the City Council for many terms hasn't produced much in the way of progress. Christopher Cobb is new to City politics and has a big job in getting his name out there before absentee voting and before November 7th. He did well and stated that his stands on issues are most like Bruce Van Allen's. Go to his website http://www.chriscobb.us for all the details.

SCAN, PDC AND SANTA CRUZ GREENS CANDIDATE FORUM. That would be Santa Cruz Action Network, People's Democratic Club and the Greens are co-sponsoring a City Council Candidate's forum this Monday evening September 18 at 7 p.m. at LONDON Nelson Community Center. Assemblyman John Laird will moderate. SCAN members will vote on City Council and consent agenda endorsements that night. Next week I'll list the winners and all recommendations decided in previous meetings. That includes Port District, Cabrilho Community College Trustee Area 1, Watsonville City Council, Santa Cruz Measures, Capitola City Council and more...
