Stop the Killings! A Series of Events Addressing Political Repression in the Philippines

This is an announcement for a series of events designed to both raise consciousness about political repression in the Philippines and build organizations in the US to help fight it.
The Critical Filipino/a Studies Research Cluster at the University of California Santa Cruz invites you to attend


Stop the Killings! A Series of Events Addressing the Current Political Repression in the Philippines


Since the current Philippine president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, took
office, over 700 student, community, and labor activists and journalists
have been killed by paramilitary groups. Please come to these events to
find out what you can do to combat state violence in the Philippines.
Representatives from organizations in the Bay Area -- Gabriela Network,
FACES (Filipino American Coalition for Environmental Solidarity), and
Malaya (San Jose-based Filipina women's organization), plus others --
will give short presentations after the film screenings on Oct. 25 and
Nov. 9.

*Wednesday, Oct. 25, 7-9pm, Oakes Learning Center *
Screening of the documentary films, /The Face of Terrorism/ and /Crisis and Repression/, and panel discussion with representatives from community organizations

*Thursday, Nov. 9, 6:30-7:30pm, Oakes Learning Center *
Screening of the documentary film, /Alingawngaw ng Mga Punglo (Echo of Bullets)/, and panel discussion with representatives from community organizations

*Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2-4pm, Baobab Lounge, Merrill College *
Lecture by Professor Amado Mendoza, Political Science Department,
University of the Philippines, Diliman
"Extra-judicial Killings, Failed Impeachment, Constitutional Change, and the War on Terror: A Philippine Situationer"
