Why Video Games?

by Confused Catepillar
I just don't understand. Video games are the least of my worries.
Due to the horrifying events at Columbine and Virginia Tech, people are quick to mark violent video games as the underlying culprit. To admit that the morality of high school and college students alike have clearly plummeted due to the media is to have the general public and giant corporations admit fault. Saying that video games prepare one for absolute manslaughter is saying that every adolescent, teenaged, young adult, and adult male or female is a murderer in training.

Why video games? Why not go after the manipulations of anorexia and drug abuse that are portrayed in every gossip magazine leading young women to die of malnutrition or overdose. Instead of blaming something that is based on fantasy, blame that which is a scary reality. Video gamers seem to be a lot happier than the starving starlets so how is it that society congratulates self-destruction and curses technology induced happiness?

Video games might serve as part of a problem in our society but no way does it end there. It is not fair to hold these games accountable for such major tragedies because it is disregarding other factors. What are your kids actually learning from television shows circling botox, cheating, excessive spending and indulging?
