NO TO STRYKERS IN HAWAI’I & NO TO DEPLETED URANIUM!

by Lindafaye Kroll RN BSN
When I read this morning that Michele Chavez-Pardini, a Waimea Mother, found possibly radioactive ammunition in her backyard, I thought I would go ballistic!
Who gives the Military the right to scatter Weapons of Mass Destruction around like they were leftover bamboo, or leaves, or something that would recycle itself back into growing, living things…

No Stryker Brigade build-up in Hawai’i. Clean-up all live-fire artillery ranges.

Weapons have killed in the past, they kill now, and they will kill in the future, and if they are radioactive, they do not degrade for over 4 billion (yes, BILLION) years.

We the poets, mothers, nurses, artists, dancers, activists, ordinary people, we must begin the serious and effective business of Peacemaking. Spread the Aloha.

We who care about the preciousness of life and the value of all living things must speak up and help the War-mongers to understand the cognitive dissonance in their reasoning.

No child should ever have to live in a home surrounded by radioactive uranium in any form. We who are awake must shake the others out of their stupor, disassemble the nightmare, and restore the balance of Paradise.

Aloha,
I am writing to voice my opposition to the use of Strykers in Hawaii.

I am also writing to voice my opposition to the use of depleted uranium anywhere.

We are a small island community that is a microcosm of larger communities on continents. We have an up close and personal view of the benefits and the damage that can be done to this canoe that is supporting all of us who live here. We have unique plants and animals and people that are a part of this island community.

It seems clear and obvious that it does not make sense to bring these destructive vehicles to "play war games" in Hawaii. The military has left behind unexploded ordinances on this island, that we found in our yard in Waimea, while doing some landscaping.

The military promptly sent out a plain clothed officer from Oahu, upon being notified of this find. We do not want to leave behind this kind of legacy in this special place.

The use of depleted uranium anywhere is completely unacceptable. I can't believe that anyone who is truly educated on the chemical make-up of depleted uranium would advocate its use.

It is a radioactive substance that is destructive to all living things. It is against international law to use weapons of mass destruction - depleted uranium is such a weapon.

Again, Hawaii is not the place for the Stryker brigade and no place is acceptable for depleted uranium. As a mother, I do not wish to leave a legacy of harm and destruction to my children or anyone's children.
