San Francisco, CA
Commandeering a prominent corner in front of California's State Public Utilities Commission for two hours,
rally participants voiced LOUD opposition to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's proposed education budget cuts.
More than 500 teachers, students, parents, and other supporters took over the corner at
Van Ness and McAllister directly across from San Francisco's City Hall in a vociferous
demonstration this week. Musical groups belted out popular rock and familiar tunes, changing the lyrics
to reflect their solidarity with the educators' struggle.
Schwarzenegger has proposed deep cuts in education spending to help balance the budget,
a move that state schools Superintendent Jack O'Connell says would strip $4.8 billion from schools.
