Activist thrown out of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
12 December 2008 - UN Framework Convention on Climate Change -Poznan, Poland-
An activist was was grabbed by UN security after he allegedly booed
when the Greek minister spoke at the Plenary. The activist was
thrown out of the UN building and they took away his badge and said
the organization he was accredited with will not be accredited again.
When he was grabbed I took a couple of photographs of him and then
was trying to follow and keep an eye on him for his safety when
security apprehended me and escorted me toward the exit. I am
accredited by the UN as a photojournalist from Z Magazine. I was
yelled at quite abusively by a high level UN security official but
not arrested.
I then went to Agence France Presse, Associated Press and Reuters
explaining what happened and they were not a bit interested. I tried
to explain the relevancy to the media about the situation in Greece
and one of the wire people shrugged and said, "What's going on in
Greece?" They were additionally uninterested in a member of the
press being prevented from carrying out his duties.
I just spoke to the activist and he is alright but they did take away
his badge and said the organization he was accredited with, will not
be accredited again.
