Stop the Militarization of the Santa Cruz Police
RALLY TO GIVE BACK THE BEARCAT MILITARY VEHICLE

SPEAK AT THE SANTA CRUZ CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Santa Cruz City Hall, 809 Center Street, Santa Cruz
On January 27, about 100 citizens attended the Santa Cruz City Council meeting to demand the Council rescind its rushed approval of the Police Department's purchase of a fully armored vehicle, a BearCat. The Santa Cruz Police relied on questionable information about their need for an armored vehicle when they pushed the Council to approve this purchase, claiming it would take 3-4 hours for the nearest armored vehicle to arrive here from Santa Clara if needed. In fact, both our own Sheriff's Department and the Scotts Valley Police Department have armored vehicles that can be quickly deployed!
The police also kept news of their successful application to Homeland Security for this military style vehicle from the City Council and the Public for over 7 months! Because of this, the Council voted before they, or the Public had time to review all the necessary information to justify approving a quarter million dollar purchase, and beginning the militarization of the SC Police Department. Police departments all across the United States are militarizing their forces. Santa Cruz should not join this trend!

...When the city of Santa Cruz, over the years, has socially and economically engineered a town that no longer supports ANYTHING like Rainbow culture.
It's been well over a decade since I've seen a poster around town for the Rainbow Gathering. All we get now are "A-Campers" & STP Family scummies whom the city USES as an excuse to make stupid laws that simply create even LESS opportunities for creative positive street energy in the city s and THAT ALL WE'RE GOING TO GET until there are simple jobs and simple housing that can be afforded with the jobs available.
But Bearcats aren't needed to control that "A-Camp/STP" element of counterculture. They're typically drunks who voluntarily go to jail for the food/housing/socializing, unlike the Rainbows, whom the BLM, National Parks, and Fish & Wildlife service consider eco-activists, therefore, like ALF and ELF, eco-terrorists.
