Questions and Demands Surrounding the Police Killing of Yuvette Henderson, 2/10/15: photos

by Dave Id
The Anti Police-Terror Project (APTP) issued a statement on the killing of Yuvette Henderson by Emeryville police officers Michelle Shepherd and Warren Williams just inside Oakland city limits on February 3. The statement calls into question the Emeryville police department's narrative of the killing since the day Yuvette was shot down. On the morning of February 10, activists gathered at the site of the memorial for Yuvette and proceeded to deliver printed questions for ExtraSpace Storage, where Yuvette was gunned down, and Home Depot, where Yuvette was accused of shoplifting and apparently some sort of altercation took place. Demands were issued to both the Emeryville and Oakland police departments at their respective headquarters.

The single demand issued to Emeryville police who killed Yuvette and to Oakland police, who are heading up the internal investigation, is simple: Release, to the public, all surveillance footage.

The questions asked of Emeryville businesses regard video evidence and facts regarding the incident with Yuvette Henderson before police were called, as well as testimony given to police since.

Within hours, Oakland police responded to the APTP demand, denying release of video evidence in the case:

Good morning:
This message is in response to your attached public records request for all surveillance footage gathered at Home Depot and at the Extra Space Storage facility from report #15-006467. Your request is denied for release pursuant to 6254(f) CGC (The case is pending, still active, under appeal or may be recharged; or the release may deprive a person(s) of a fair trial and release of this information may endanger the successful completion of any current or prospective investigation, or may disclose investigative techniques.

Probably not a coincidence that ExtraSpace chose not to open on time, or at all, considering that Home Depot closed hours early all of last week in fear of related protests.
