Come along on a free walking tour relating the deep history of the game of Monopoly to San Francisco's housing crisis. Mary Pilon's recently published book THE MONOPOLISTS details the origins of the Monopoly game as a protest against land speculation!

This walking tour uses a 10 minute recounting of that history to frame a tour surveying five major social movements in which San Francisco figured prominently: The Mormon Migration, the Black Panthers, the 60's-70's Generation Gap, LGBT liberation, and Occupy Wall Street.

These histories, in turn, are used to illuminate an interpretation of the current SF housing crisis. An antidote to the Monopoly syndrome--an antidote proposed in 1879--rounds off the walking tour.
