The first annual Razors Edge Solo Performance Festival will happen this November in New Orleans from November 12th to November 22nd, 2015. Phil Yiannopolous tells WTUL News & Views about planning the festival and offering world class theater to New Orleans in 2015 with Faux/Real New Orleans, Festival of the Arts.

Solo Performance is as old as history and completely contemporary — it stretches back to the epic bards and poets who gathered the community around a fire, and it goes all the way to Patrick Stewart on Broadway playing all 43 roles in A Christmas Carol. To be solo, on stage, encompasses all forms, from dramatic Storytelling to Butoh Dance to Samuel Beckett's play for performer and tape deck. All are exciting expressions of the solo performance. All are risk-takers.

Razor's Edge is committed to presenting the best of national, international and local performers, and creating community among the performance community. Developing a distinctive personal voice and learning to be comfortable alone on stage is an important tool for every performer. To promote the art form, we are establishing opportunities to foster new work and encourage the growth of new, seldom-heard voices.
