The event will feature live music, family carnival games, barbecue chicken lunch (noon to 1:30pm), exhibitors, barbecued oysters and a huge selection of delicious local fare. The MRGC annual picnic is a free family event open to the public to help build awareness, membership and raise funds for restoring San Pablo Bay and conservation efforts throughout California. The historic Marin Rod & Gun Club is located at 2675 East Francisco Blvd. San Rafael, CA - just west of the Richmond Bridge.

Picnic goers are encouraged to pre-purchase the barbecued chicken lunch, which features a fresh salad and delicious corn on the cob, all for only $12. Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting the club before the event or by calling (415) 456-8142.

This year’s picnic will feature live music from local Marin bands and the famous barbecued oysters and hot dogs for folks of all ages. Kids and grown-ups alike will enjoy the carnival games.

Founded in 1926, the Marin Rod & Gun Club is one of California’s oldest and largest outdoor sporting clubs. With just 35 original members, the club focused on the conservation, preservation and propagation of fish and game in Marin County and beyond. The MRGC moved into its current headquarters on San Pablo Bay in 1956 and built the iconic fishing pier and clubhouse that are the cornerstones of the club. Today, the club has 1,200 members who are actively involved in conservation, education and, of course, fishing off the club’s pier.

BACKGROUND:

Founded in 1926, the Marin Rod & Gun Club is one of California’s oldest and largest outdoor sporting clubs. With just 35 original members, the club focused on the conservation, preservation and propagation of fish and game in Marin County and beyond. The MRGC moved into its current headquarters on San Pablo Bay at Point San Quentin in 1956 and built the iconic fishing pier and clubhouse that are the cornerstone of the club. Today, the club has 1,200 members who are actively involved in conservation, education and, of course, fishing off the club’s pier.

Since its inception, the Marin Rod & Gun Club has been actively involved in legislation and policies to protect fish and wildlife in San Francisco Bay and the waterways throughout California. MRGC helped to pass a law restricting the commercial fishing of striped bass in California waters – a notable achievement that has preserved recreational fishing for thousands of residents. MRGC members also award graduate scholarships in the fields of conservation, wildlife management and associated fields in addition to supporting efforts of other nonprofit organizations dedicated to wildlife conservation and recreation.

Club members are very active and social and enjoy access to the Marin Rod & Gun Club’s facilities, located on 55 acres of San Pablo Bay waterfront at Point San Quentin. These include a clubhouse, fishing pier, boat ramp and expansive picnic grounds. For more information on membership and the annual picnic, please visit MarinRodandGunClub.com.
