From the best-selling author of Why We Get Fat comes the New York Times bestseller, THE CASE AGAINST SUGAR, a groundbreaking, eye-opening expose that makes the convincing case that sugar is the tobacco of the new millennium: backed by powerful lobbies, entrenched in our lives, and making us very sick.
"If you ever doubted that sugar is the root cause of our obesity, diabetes, and heart disease epidemic, then look no further than this book. Doctors, policy makers, and concerned eaters would do well to heed Taubes's advice."
-Mark Hyman, M.D., author of Eat Fat, Get Thin and The Blood Sugar Solution
"I am grateful beyond words for Gary Taubes's courageous and meticulous documentation of the health dangers of sugar. The information in this book, if you apply it, will quite literally save your life."
-Christiane Northrup, M.D., author of Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom
Gary Taubes is the author of Why We Get Fat and Good Calories, Bad Calories.
He is a former staff writer for Discover and a correspondent for the journal Science.
His writing has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, and Esquire.
He has received three Science in Society Journalism Awards from the National Association of Science Writers, and he is the recipient of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award in Health Policy Research, and a cofounder of the Nutrition Science Initiative. He lives in Oakland, CA.
Host Joanna Manqueros graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a Phi Beta Kappa before earning a Masters in Social Work in S.F. State University. She worked as a therapist at Kaiser Hospital, where she was co-chair of the Diversity Committee in Psychiatry for ten years. She has been host of KPFA's Music of the World since 2005.
$12 advance, $15 door.
