Healthcare in Sonoma County: Our Healthcare Must Be a Priority of Government

by Emily Kyle
An Op-Ed letter about Healthcare in Sonoma County.
Health care throughout the United States is something that our current President and Congress aren’t taking serious enough. Everyone deserves the right to be able to go see a doctor or Physician at a decent price. Insurance throughout, specifically the state of California may be better than other states but that still has allowed over 20,000 residents in Sonoma County alone to not have insurance.

From my research at SSU regarding the uninsured in Sonoma County, I have found that most uninsured residents don’t know how to apply for insurance or they don’t know that they can apply for it. Most businesses don’t even provide insurance for their employees.

According to current findings, if the new administration repeals Obamacare Sonoma County will be hit hard. There will be a loss of more than 2,000 jobs and over $200 million dollars. Patients will lose access to preventative care, treatment for acute and chronic illnesses, as well as losing mental health services and dental care. This means most residents will have to resort back to using the emergency room when something major occurs, instead of going to a physician. Our healthcare must be a priority of the government.
