Granite Construction and Trump’s Wall
I have some good news. According to an email to City Councilmember Chris Krohn, Granite Construction will not be putting in a bid to build Trump’s Wall. This appears to be somewhat of a turnaround. In an interview with their CEO on Bloomberg News in late November of 2016, he said that “if we are asked to build the wall, we will build it.”
Granite responded to Councilmember Krohn just days before the Santa Cruz City Council was to vote on a resolution against doing business with companies that would build the wall. San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland had already passed, or were in the process of passing, similar resolutions. The City Council will take an easy (at this point) vote on the resolution on Tuesday night, April 25th, between 7:30 and 8:30PM.
While we will never know exactly what Granite’s decision process was, we can appreciate them for staying away from Trump’s racist wall. And we can feel proud that we have already played a small part in the movement to stop it.
To celebrate, we will be putting up a 70 foot long, 10 foot high cardboard version of Trump’s Wall at the City Councilmeeting. Donald Trump will be there to defend it and we will happily knock it down. Show up to help construct at 5PM, then modify it for a few hours before knocking it down after the Council Resolution, between 7:30 and 9PM. This is a cathartic thing for Trump opponents of all ages. Hope to see you there.
In solidarity,
Micah Posner
