Google algorithms suppressing small websites

by John Thielking (Pagesincolor [at] yahoo.com)
Google and Facebook are increasingly unfriendly for small publishers. The latest round is that Google no longer takes you to the URLs typed in search
I am slowly moving away from publishing my own content on my own websites or my own screen name on sites such as Facebook. It seems that the algorithms that distribute content on Facebook and even now in Google are increasingly stacked against the little guy. The latest bit is that it now appears that Google no longer displays any results at all when you type in the url such as kpfa.org into the search engine. The only way that you can find a website in Google now is if the website name ranks high enough in Google search results to appear on the first page of Google and even then the paid ads of the competitors show up at the top of the page. If I type in kpfa without the .org that brings up some results that include kpfa.org.

I am changing my strategy to include supporting offline organizations that also have more traffic to their websites such as footbridge warming center in Santa Cruz and the silicon valley bike coalition. That way I'm not just flushing $75 to $200 per month down the toilet to produce content that no one will ever see.
