From Inequality of the Gods to Equality of Humankind

by Nayvin Gordon
History demonstrates clearly that humans can live in egalitarian societies, we do not have to accept the brutality of social dominance and inequality. We must take matters into our own hands to change the world.
From Inequality of the Gods to
Equality of Humankind

The Gods Created Hierarchy—

Europe-----
The divine right of kings: in European history, this was a political doctrine in defense of monarchy, which asserted that kings derived their authority from God and could not be held accountable for their actions by any earthly authority.

Egypt------
The Egyptians believed their pharaoh to be the mediator between the gods and the world of men. After death, the pharaoh became divine and passed on his sacred powers and position to the new pharaoh, his son.

China--
The emperor himself was the Son of Heaven. As the Son, he was responsible for following the laws of heaven and maintaining order and harmony between the human world and heaven. The emperor was given the Mandate of Heaven, the divine authority of the gods to rule over all of China.

India------
The Hindu God of Creation created India’s caste system over three thousand years ago. Hinduism separates people by social hierarchy groups—known as castes—based on the community they are born into.

Mankind Created Inequality----

Master and Slave--slavery
Lord and Serf----feudalism
Employer and Employee--capitalism

Inequality’s spawn--the poisonous ladder of human worthiness

Bob Marley reflects on the poison of this social status ladder in his song “War”, which includes part of a speech by Haile Selassie of Ethiopia:

"that until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned; that until there is no longer any first-class and second-class citizens of any nation; that until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; that until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all, without regard to race -- until that day, the dreams of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained…”

Men and Women created communalism and egalitarianism

For 60,000 years Indigenous Australians lived a collective life. The worldview of Australian Aboriginal people was expansive, with a perception of society as a community of common understandings and behaviors shared well beyond the confines of the local group. Aboriginal society had a relatively egalitarian social structure…History: 60000 years - Working with Indigenous Austr

Before the Native Americans were colonized by Europeans, Native communities were for the most part egalitarian.

Anthropologists have repeatedly demonstrated that humans have lived for thousands of years in egalitarian societies. In fact, many have practiced “reverse hierarchy”—those who sought to dominate as despots were punished, banished, or killed.

In an egalitarian society, social, economic, and political equality exists for all.

Do we have the will to abolish the horrors of hierarchy and inequality?

The choice is ours.

Will we take matters into our own hands and create an egalitarian world??
